The Sierra Nevada mountains in California are a short range of only about 400 miles in length and roughly 50 to 80 miles wide. They are impressive with the amount of variety that they pack into that distance. The range can be devided into three rough sections. The section this site pertains to is the central region. Yosemite National Park is centered in the section. The other two sections are the southern section where Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks are located, and the northern section which is where Lake Tahoe is located.
Most of the things that I discuss on this site deal with areas that are an easy day trip to Yosemite. Most is the area and topics discussed are in places that most every one is going to drive by on the way to Yosemite regardless of the direction from which the party comes.
The topics that are discussed in Worth The Detour section of this site are things that are still in the central region, the subjects may not be directly on the way to Yosemite or they may border the northern or southern regions.
